Summary

We are seeking an innovative and dynamic Principal Scientist II with extensive expertise in neuroscience and animal behavior to join our Emerging Technologies team in Comparative Medicine. This team focuses on exploring in vivo digital biomarkers using state-of-the-art, non-invasive technologies such as digital home-cage monitoring solutions. In this role, you will drive research programs aimed at discovering novel digital measurements and biomarkers through technologies like video monitoring. Your work will provide researchers with deeper insights into animal behavior and disease onset, enhancing model definition and decision-making processes in research. Additionally, you will contribute to the welfare of the animals and the application of the 3Rs principles (Reduction, Refinement, Replacement).

About the Role

Major Accountabilities:

  • Contribute to the Biomedical Research drug discovery process by advancing the development and discovery of new in-vivo digital biomarkers.
  • Explore and validate novel in-vivo digital biomarker hypotheses by leveraging expertise in physiology and behavioral neuroscience, combined with an understanding of human disease mechanisms. Demonstrated ability to set up in-vivo study design for several animal disease models and to perform data quality analysis and statistical analysis.
  • Foster partnerships with data scientists, external partners, and internal teams across Biomedical Research Disease Areas and platform functions.
  • Develop and communicate project strategies, scientific vision, and data insights to key stakeholders.
  • Act as the main scientific contact for researchers at US sites, including San Diego, Emeryville, and Cambridge.
  • Represent the organization in consortiums and working groups exploring the implementation of non-clinical digital biomarkers in scientific research.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Neuroscience, Physiology, or a related field with postdoctoral experience.
  • Proven track record in exploring animal behavior and activity phenotyping.
  • Demonstrated ability to set up experiment design for in vivo experiments and advanced statistical analysis.
  • Basic knowledge of artificial intelligence and machine learning models.
  • Experience with digital home-cage monitoring solutions and/or other monitoring technologies.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with stakeholders, external vendors, and partners.
